heros yeah (applause) in the innovation capital of the world the world class city of san francisco congratulations everybody for being a hero today. you know the san francisco hospital foundation the general hospital foundation has been such a wonderful wonderful entity and i want to just thank stephanie your leadership, i want to thank julie and rich at the board with all of the other board members, the staff at the hospital, all of the staph, you know sometimes the doctors have to do it's emergency work but what makes that whole hospital run is literally everybody that works at the hospital from the social workers to the accountants to the administrators to the nurses, and nurse practitioner and is the doctors and all of the fundraisers thank you

everybody for working together. and for today, again, a big thanks to ellen and pam for your leadership and bringing the hearts and the heros together. it's such a wonderful just community effort to support our general hospital and all of the work that it does. everybody knows what it does already. but i also want to say there are other heros that you are acknowledging today and i would like to just give them a word of thanks. you know, when people get to the hospital, sometimes, it's in time. sometimes it's a little late. but having a world-class hospital treat you, is what we expect and come to expect in this world-class city. but there are also people that work in addition, to the

emergency staff that aren't being recognized today and i want to give a south out to john cat he and officer david sand volunteer of the police department because they are doing prefix work because they know, they know along with our police chief and all the others that if we prevent people from getting injured if we can get them into lifestyles that are safer, we will be that much more successful as a city and they are doing that with gang prevention and motivation and aspiration for the youth getting them jobs as officers in a capacity outside of their uniform that is a wonderful thing. were the to give a shout out to doctor row chair oh, vickier. [spelling?] yes, she is a hero because, she is also trying too make sure that the none-violate lifestyle is taught when people visit the hospital

can they get some injury prevention vice and making that are we can prevent those injury and is then of course, there are these culturally competent staff that we have at the hospital through barbara garcia's leadership and the whole commission to make sure that we have competent support, that talk with the patients and their families and make sure that the continuity of healthcare extends from the doctors all the way to the families and those have carol lamb and rachel or kin and thank you very much for our your heroism today. >> (applause) . >> not only do we have a world-class trauma center we will continue having that, we have got a new hospital on the way. the biggest general obligation bond we have ever had but i am so proud of it and we will all be so proud of this wonderful hospital and the fact

that it continues to be linked to the fantastic research doctors and medical staff of uc s f, that is a great combination that very few cities have across this country. this hospital, creates 3,000 jobs in it's rebuild. thirty% are san francisco residents that is 500 san francisco residents working with their hands to build the brand new hospital for our future generations. they have done it right. it's on time, $63 million to local businesses as a result of the construction of this hospital. so i'm looking forward in 2015 to join all of you in opening this hospital, making sure we are doing everything to keep people healthy in the city and congratulations to the foundation for your wonderful work congratulations to all of

us nobody has got it better than us in san francisco congratulations everyone. at at&t san francisco general hospital and trauma center connections people everyday with programs specifically designed to increase wellness. health education in their lives these important life enhancing services are available for all residents of san francisco regardless of able to pay. and on top of that remarkable approach to service the hospital's quality care is the best in the bay area. last year the general won the patient safety first zero hero award as well as the california association of public hospital's safety net institute quality leaders top honest a bard ask that is why it's important to support the general hospital foundation and support programs at the hospital in the following video, stephanie tom matt see and crew beatifully cap toured

two of those programs and their benefits: . >> i have eniwent to a friend who was building our new home and i went to step on an attached floor and it wasn't and i fell onto concrete. when character shier came to san francisco general hospital it was clear she had very significant injuries which includeddier to her pelvis and her heel bone. san francisco general is the only trauma center in the city so if you get injured anywhere from the bridges down to the airport, you are coming here. i we want to the public health do an overall screens and that included hiv aids and then the nurse came in and said, don't worry hundred. i have never given a positive and ten

minutes later, his face went flush write and was test was positive. >> she came to us during her pregnancy and was very worried about passing hiv onto her baby. >> this is really a world class situation and we are the safety health hospital for 20% in the city and major research and education institution and we have over 150 person investigator and is around 800 people who have worked on this campus doing just research. >> none of this would be possible if we deny have the outside support of of the foundation. the support is very broad and supports many many programs. some examples are bay pack and then, another example is the f b trine institute. the orthopedic trauma institute is

the one of the first programs that the foundation funded it's one $50,000 the institute has been able to leverage into tense of millions of dollars. >> and the surgical training facility was one that we development and it's of it's kind in the uc >> speaker: and improved the education of our own trainee and is residents of san francisco but neighbors across the globe. must slow schedule a tal problems and injuries are the second largest burden in the world of healthcare. the least patients are seen in these developing world countries with poor resource many of these patients are los angeles wishing on wards. our course bring in surgeon and is teach them so they can spare these limb and is bring the patients back to a functional status where they can go back and provide for their families.

>> the foundation also supported bay pack which, is an exiting and innovative program. this particular program works with the sector to pregnant woman and the treatment of woman so that for babies who are born free of virus. >> when i first walked into the office doctor coen told me i can have a natural birth and i didn't wrap my head around that. >> we know a woman with hiv if we do nothing her risk of passing the hiv to her baby is 25% with the use of this medication we can substantially reduce that risk to much less than one%. bay pack someone of the first organization to use the combination medication in pregnant woman. >> i'm so grateful that the medicines they have to ensure a

baby be born healthy. >> this has been so successful that it's been five-six years now since we have had a child born at san francisco general infected with hiv fires and i owe them so much gratitude for may being sure my daughter was born healthy. i don't know who to even that i think thank in that. >> i don't have any pain on reresidual damage and san francisco is giving to san francisco and i'm so lucky that i was brought here to be treated. >> we really want to thank the foundation expawflt work the hard work that goes into supporting our programs. they do make a difference. >> the san francisco general hospital foundation has been a life line for bay pack and really we would not be able to do our work without the foundation. >> i owe my healthy beautiful
